About IEPA

A tradition of scholarship, service and leadership

A non-political, non-profit socio-academic organisation of professors and emeritus professors of Ilorin Emirate origin — established in late 2019 to harness collective scholarship for the development of the Emirate and Nigeria.

History & Background

The emergence of IEPA reflects the remarkable educational transformation of Ilorin Emirate. Through deliberate investment in education by families, community leaders and successive administrations, the Emirate experienced rapid academic advancement in the latter half of the twentieth century.

A significant milestone was reached in 1976 when Professor Saka Nuru, a scholar of Veterinary Medicine, became the first Professor produced by Ilorin Emirate. Since then, the number of professors of Ilorin origin has grown steadily across virtually every discipline — medicine, engineering, law, agriculture, education, sciences, humanities and the social sciences.

The Emirate has also produced several Vice-Chancellors and internationally renowned scholars, demonstrating its emergence as one of Nigeria's foremost centres of academic excellence.

Recognising the need to unite these accomplished academics under one umbrella, the Ilorin Emirate Professors' Association was formed in late 2019. The Association held its 7th Annual General Meeting in December 2025.
